Cruise Cancelled After Tragic Loss of Woman Stranded on Remote Island

A two-month voyage through the Australian Coast was terminated following the death of an older woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The liner departed without her and returned after some time after the crew became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Occurrences

The liner initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the journey at the moment of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to take part in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Response

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an planned outing without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking organization.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it seems that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mother's being".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the hill climb," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the vessel sailed away, seemingly without doing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that process, or not long after, she passed away, without company."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "working closely with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the family.

The liner serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate data. It was purpose-built to access distant locations of the nation's shoreline and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on land visits.
